If you want to book your practical test will have to first pass your theory. There are two parts;
1. Hazard perception
2. Multiple choice question and answer
You sit both on the same day and you have to pass both parts in order to attain your theory certificate. Info can be found here and you can book your theory here.
Recommended official DSA study material can be found in your local book stores or online at Amazon for example. We would recommend reading the Highway Code. There are also a number of apps for Apple and Android phones which can help you prepare.
Once you have passed your theory you can start thinking about your practical test - discuss when to book with your instructor.
